Hello friends. There are always many people who want to know how you come up with a name for a band. Well, in our particular case it started out with lots of different kinds of names and some were already taken while others were just sounded kind of “corny”.
So we tried to think of something that we had in common. It just so happens, that we all reside in the Kansas City Area where there is a river called the “Little Blue”. Ironically, it is this river that separates where we live from each other. In other words, some of us live East of the River some live West. But the reality is that the river symbolizes our band in many aspects. The river changes it look at different times of the year, just like we change our song lists. The river is very winding just like some of the chord progression that we play. The river provides for a habitat for wildlife, just as we provide entertainment for our audiences. The river has been around for many years, just like some of the songs we play. Hiking around the river trails provides a peaceful retreat of life, as does some of the many gospel songs we play. Are you getting the connection? The river is sort of a traditional flow of water throughout the region, so we play traditional music that flows to the hearts of our audience.
But what about Blue River Express? To finalize the name, we decided to drop the “little” and add the word Express, which represents our attempt at being available quickly and our desire to play upbeat songs that represent the traditional bluegrass genre.
Lastly, I must confess that the “Little Blue River” is not blue at all but I really liked the Caribbean picture above and wanted to share it (please click the photo to enlarge). I hope to see you us around as we continue to seek out new opportunities to play because that is what we love to do.
